Physical Activities

Table Tennis
Table tennis is a sport that can be enjoyed by individuals of any age and is a great way to stimulate the brain and promote quick thinking while improving hand-eye coordination. Table Tennis is a low-injury risk sport that keeps you fit, agile, and flexible, without putting severe stress on joints.

Tai Chi
Originating in China, Tai Chi is an effective exercise for health of mind, body & spirit. Although it is an art that takes great depth of knowledge and skill; it can be easily learned and will deliver many health benefits in a short amount of time. Instructor Jeffrey Fung has been teaching the Yang Style and many other styles of Tai Chi for the past 20 years. He will guide you step by step through each movement as you improve your health and quality of life.

Beginning Yoga
Through simple breathing exercises and gentle yoga poses, this class will make your body feel better, stronger and bring peace and clarity to your mind.

Formerly known as Gentle Yoga, is suitable for members 50+, new to yoga, with physical limitations, recovering from injury, and or students who want to have less rigorous and a more relaxing practice. Equal emphasis is placed on building strength and balance, breathing mindfully, increasing flexibility, strengthening mental focus, and relaxing into the moment.

Feldenkrais
Awareness Through Movement classes offer a unique opportunity to focus your awareness on how you move through life. Rediscover and increase your body’s range of movement and improve your balance, flexibility and over-all sense of well-being. Move out of pain and discomfort and improve your ability to function.

Michele Westlaken is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner (CM). She also offers Functional Integration lessons one-on-one.

Fitness & Fun
A 50+ group exercise class that provides strength and flexibility. Taught by a spectacular fitness expert, this class is motivational and safe for all levels of fitness. The class is designed to increase range of motion in the joint systems and is coordinated with rhythmic movement and songs.

Intermediate Yoga
Intermediate Yoga, formerly known as Hatha Yoga, is a mindful practice of moving the body with breath. Intermediate Yoga refers to a set of postures and sequences of asanas designed to align your skin, muscles, and bones. The postures are designed to open many channels of the body, especially the main channel, the spine- so that the energy can flow freely. Intermediate yoga is a powerful tool to develop balance, strength and flexibility.

Intermediate Line Dancing
Intermediate/advanced level line dance instruction including both classic and new dances from world-renowned choreographers. Students should be experienced in dancing and retaining current line dance steps, patterns and sequences and have an appreciation for a variety of musical phrasing and tempo compositions as related to dancing and dance choreography. This 50+ group learns patterns and practices with fun and enthusiasm.

Meditation
Conscious breathing and meditation techniques offer tremendous health benefits. Lower blood pressure, strengthen heart and lungs, and re-calibrate your nervous system. Meditation offers a heightened sense of well-being, reduces stress, and helps with symptoms of depression.

T’ai Chi Chih®
T’ai Chi Chih® is a set of movements completely focused on the development of an intrinsic energy called Chi. It consists of 19 stand-alone movements and one pose. T’ai Chi Chih is not a martial art, is completely non-violent, and does not require a particular level of physical fitness or coordination. For those with physical limitations, movements may be done seated – with some modification.

Social Groups

Anandvan Group
The mission of this group is to conduct and promote activities of common interest of Indian members at the Saratoga Senior Center. Programs will be provided especially for seniors staying in US or visiting their families from India (or South Asia). Some of the activities are meditation, yoga, talks related to health, informal pot lucks gatherings.

Chinese Chamber Music
This social group gets together with their own instruments to play together, practice and learn new music. Open to all levels.

Memoirs
The Memoirs Social Group is lead with instruction and offers tips on how to write your life story. Sharing our life story can be influential. Gentle critiques are given in a trusted environment. 5 Tips for starting your Memoirs: 1. Write Memoirs, not an autobiography, 2. Diagram your life. 3. Don’t begin at the beginning. 4. Use all of your senses. 5. Build your writing muscle.

Nutrition Made Easy
This classes teaches you easy to make, nutritious meals that you can take home and enjoy. Sponsored by the S. Ku Foundation, this class takes place every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month unless otherwise announced. RSVP is required for each class session.

Saratoga ‘17 Bridge
All levels are welcome to play in our Bridge Social Group. Bridge is by far the greatest card game of all, and it can provide immense challenge and enjoyment for the rest of your life.

Bridge, is a trick-taking game using a standard 52-card deck. It is played by four players, in two competing partnerships, with partners sitting opposite each other around a table. Popular among older adults, the game consists of several deals each progressing through four phases: dealing the cards, the auction (also referred to as bidding), playing the cards, and scoring the results.

Saratoga Art Group All SASCC members are welcome. This not an instructor led class, but a social group for artists. We have painters, card makers and other artists who participate weekly.

Saratoga Traders
Saratoga Traders is a group of people who are interested in investments and financial matters. Guest speakers share on financial topics and a stock presentation is made by one of the members. We have model stock portfolios prepared by members to test their stock picking strategies. We review the stocks in the portfolios with updated information as well as stock picking techniques with current electronic NASDAQ and S&P 500 data. We connect our computers to a projector for shared visibility of current portfolio information, charts and websites. You may bring your computer to the meetings; if you have something to share we can easily connect your computer.

SASSY Quilters
‘Quilting,’ the process of creating a quilt, uses ‘quilting’ to join layers as one of its steps, often along with designing, piecing, appliqué, binding and other steps. Any and all types of hand sewing/quilting. No machines available.

Social Group
Join stimulating conversation about travel, entertainment, activities, and life. May we continue to share experience and hope. This group brings connection, conversation, and ideas! It is wonderful to develop the art of friendship even with others whom may have different views and backgrounds. Come with an open mind and heart.

Wednesday Lunch
SASCC partners with the Villas at Saratoga to cater hot meals for our Wednesday Lunch Bunch, or occasionally, local restaurants. The meals are healthy and provide well-balanced nutrition. Live musicians or guest speakers offer entertainment and resource information during the luncheon. The lunch bunch is open to members, non-members, caretakers and friends.

Lunch is only $5 for members, $10 for non-members.
